Nostalgia

Hey guys.

You've caught me in a very reflective mood. It is currently 4am of the morning of my 20th birthday.

Yep, that may be a suprise for some of you, but i assure you it's true, i am only (as of eight hours from now) 20.

I have been hit with a sudden burst of nostalga. I have really begun to feel a longing for what i once had. I remember when i was 17, only 3 short years ago, i had one of the best summers of my life. Now, i know all you Americans now, that camp summers are great summers, and that they can never be beaten, But this one was different for some reason. I still consider my first summer at copneconic my best summer ever, but let me fill you in on some things that happened the summer before i was the counselor you all know and love.

I want you to all cast your minds back to your summer of 2004. I know it's not a long time ago, but bear with me, this will make sense soon enough.

Imagine, if you will, a 17 year old Jamie. He has much shorter hair, and is even skinnier than he is now, he is basically, a dork.

But not to the skating community... oh no,

To the skating communtiy he is 1/4 of the great TEAM PIE.

For that summer, we were legends. Me, Daz, Stratton and KG were the gods of chelmsford. We skated every day, and drunk every night. Every kid idolised us, and every skater wanted to be a part of our team. It was madness. But, as all storys do, it has a downside.

We started taking on new members, such as irish joe, Laa Laa and Paulio geroigio. Eventually team pie became too big to handle, too many people to please, and too much like work, and it fell apart. we all went our seperate ways.

Nowadays, I live in America, Daz works in a different town, Stratton barely comes out and Kyle works from about 11 - 10 every day as a head chef. Life took over, we had to stop living the dream. We've all had girlfriends come and go (and some stay :) but one thing has remined true, we're still Team Pie at heart, and every now and then, about twice a year if we're lucky, we manage to go get a skate session and a trip to the pub in, just like we did 3 years ago. We still remember the good old days, when we all had no money, and made trips to the local off licence to buy some beer at about 2pm, drink all afternoon and skate home at dusk.

We remember the solid nights we spent filming clips for our show Dumbass, watching Jackass for inspiration and then going and fliming things in my back garden. We remember buying 12p bottles of lemonade, and bringing food from home, because we only had a pound to last us for the rest of the week.

We remember the first pub that recognised us as regulars, and always served us, even though we were only 17. (The picture at the bottom is actually taken in the same pub, for nostalgas sake.)

We remember always being invited to house partys, because we were fun! We did impromptu skate demos in peoples gardens, we performed stunts for crowds, we were the life of the party, every time!

We remember having nothing to do, but skate and laugh. Having no-one depending on us, and depending on no-one.

What i'm trying to say, is that times change. Nowadays I have no time to go skate in the summer, I work on camp, 24/7 for 6 days of the week. I live in a different country, so theres no time to go out with the guys on weekends. We're getting older, and i know 20 is still young, i dont deny that at all, its just that we all have so many responsibilitys. It used to be "meet at the skate park after school", but now it's more, "see you in december". Team pie meets up so rarely nowadays that to the casual eye, we might have not known each other at all, and yet we set each other up for life by being there during the hard years of each others lives. Team pie may be growing up, but we'll always remember each other, and what we've done for each and every member of the team.

Team pie for life.

Keep it safe kids

I feel it slightly necessary to point out-even though I'm sure you already know-that the picture for 2004 was taken in the middle of 2005.

You think nostalgia hits hard now - wait until you're 30 and thinking back to the good old days :)

See you soon Jamie.
